Cut back on carbohydrates and starches Excess carbohydrates are converted into body fat and stored in fat cells if the energy from the carbohydrates is not used up. Many people mistakenly believe that it is only the fat that you eat that builds up the body’s fat stores. This is not true - in fact, carbohydrates are even worse culprits. Similarly, low-calorie diets can reduce metabolic rate and metabolism and slow thyroid-function. THERMOthin weight management supplement is a unique herbal formula, with ingredients to support fat mobilisation when used in conjunction with a sensible diet and exercise programme - the best solution for long term weight loss! Now with added capsicum extract, acai berry, L-tyrosine (for thyroid support), piperine, green tea extract and guarana, it supports a healthy metabolism and weight loss. Most carbohydrates raise blood sugar very quickly - they therefore stimulate release by the body of the hormone insulin. Insulin brings the blood sugar level back down again by diverting the excess into the liver, and then by turning it into fat and driving it into the fat cells. Not ideal if you are trying to lose weight! Even worse, a high carbohydrate diet often conditions the body to release too much insulin on a regular basis. The result can be frequent low blood sugar crises, cravings for sweets, chocolate or alcohol, recurrent bouts ot fatigue, weight gain and a cycle that keeps repeating itself. In the end it can lead to diabetes. This can be avoided, but does not involve cutting out carbohydrates altogether. Many carbohydrate-containing foods provide essential vitamins and other nutrients. The key is learning which are the “good” carbohydrates and which are the “not so good”. The rate at which carbohydrate foods release insulin varies, and each has now been measured against a standard called the glycaemic index (GI). The good carbohydrates release insulin slowly and have a slower, steadier effect on blood sugar and energy levels. Examples of low GI carbohydrates include oatmeal, whole grain rye bread, apples, pears, grapes, peas, beans and fruit sugar. It is also important to learn to balance the proportion ot carbohydrates, protein and fat you eat at each meal, so that you stay in control and use your diet to lose fat, not gain it. Body Mass Index (BMI) One of the most overlooked aspects of any diet and fitness programme is getting proper fat-testing assessments. This can be particularly beneficial before looking at a scale, which can often be misleading. Ideally, you want to know that all that mass that you are losing is from fat (e.g. rather than muscle), to ensure healthy and effective weight loss. Taking the time to get a basic body fat test can help you on the way to your weight loss goals. Generally, a BMI of 20 to 25 is considered to be healthy. A BMI of less than 20 suggests a person that is underweight, 25 to 29 indicates an overweight person, whilst 30 and above is a sign of obesity.   Chromium Chromium Picolinate, an ingredient in our weight management supplement THERMOthin, can help you maintain balanced blood sugar levels, which is vital if you are to say goodbye to cravings - a major obstable to weight loss. Increase lean protein intake It you want to change your shape, tone up and lose weight, it is important to eat enough protein. Often, so-called “healthy diets” limit the amount of protein to be eaten, because it often contains fat. But it you cut down on protein, you have to eat a high amount of carbohydrates instead, which is a recipe for gaining both weight and volume and can also lead to blood sugar problems. The healthy protein foods ideally included in any weight loss plan are fish, white meat (preferably organic), low fat cheese, eggs, beans, nuts, seeds and vegetable protein powders. Proteins are particularly important, not only because they are the main building-blocks of the body, but also because the right balance of protein in a meal keeps your blood sugar level steady so that you don’t feel the urge to snack. Blood sugar (glucose) is the body’s main energy supply, ready to be delivered to every cell as and when needed. Protein keeps blood sugar levels steady by stimulating the release of a hormone called glucagon. Glucagon keeps your blood sugar level steady for hours by releasing some of the body’s stored carbohydrates and by mobilising fat out of the fat cells to be burned for energy. This is excellent news for slimmers, because you can support your weight loss by learning how to balance the protein in your diet. It is also important not to go to extremes with protein. The very high protein diets that have been so popular in the past can lead to loss of muscle mass and can actually make changes to the fat cells so that you gain even more weight when the diet is over.
